ACADEMIC PROGRAMMESProgramme Structure (For Entry 2019 and After)

The BSc (Hons) in Hotel Management programme follows the norm of 124 or 121 academic credits for graduation. Students must complete: (a) 30 credits of General University Requirements (GUR), which include Healthy Lifestyle, Language & Communication Requirements (LCR), Cluster Area Requirements (CAR), and Common Mandatory Subjects; and (b) 76 credits required by a major study, which includes 16 common subjects (46 credits) taken by hotel management and tourism and events management students, six specialist subjects (18 credits), two career track option subjects (6 credits), and an honours thesis (6 credits) or two capstone projects (6 credits).

Furthermore, students need to take 18 credits of minor study or 15 credits of free electives offered by SHTM or other departments/schools within the University. The components for a minor in a discipline can consist of either elective subjects or both elective and compulsory subjects.

In addition to the 124 or 121-credit bearing academic units, this programme requires seven mandatory training credits, i.e., 6 training credits of Work-Integrated Education (WIE) and one training credit of Professional Development.

Minor

Students are required to complete 18 credits for a minor. The component of a minor study can consist of either elective subjects of a particular discipline or both elective and compulsory subjects of a particular discipline.

Students are required to complete 15 credits for free electives, of which at least 9 credits must be at level 3 or above, for fulfilment of the graduation requirement.
